In 2003 the Charitable Gaming Board (the "Board") and the Department of Charitable Gaming (the "DCG" or "Department") were established. Together they oversee charitable gaming licensing, regulation, inspection, and enforcement activities on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Charitable Gaming Board advises the Department of Charitable Gaming on all aspects of the conduct of charitable gaming in Virginia. It consists of nine members appointed by the Governor subject to confirmation by the Virginia General Assembly.

Established in 1984, The North American Gaming Regulators Association (NAGRA) is comprised of federal, state, local, tribal, and provincial government agencies who are responsible primarily for the regulation of legalized gaming activities.
